Double Aught, Inc. Unveils Duality at E3

Brooklyn, NY, June 1, 1998   Greg Kirkpatrick, president of development house Double Aught, Inc. and one of the developers of the popular MarathonTM series of titles, introduced his newest endeavor at E3 last week. This new project, named DualityTM, promises to be one of the more singular 1st person, 3D action/adventure experiences around.

"In this crowded 3D, 1st person-shooter market there is more than enough room for artistic elegance and creative gameplay. The 'kill everyone in town' philosophy that most of these games adopt can only hold gamers interests for so long before they realise they want more, and we plan to give gamers much more." said Greg Kirkpatrick

DualityTM utilizes portal-based technology rather than the more common BSP technology in its proprietary engine and editing tools. This affords artists and level designers more freedom in creating spaces, objects and ultimately storytelling. The staffers at Double Aught were convinced that they were on the right track by the response at E3. According to art director David Longo (also a member of the Marathon Infinity development team) comments on the DualityTM engine have focused primarily on its unique look and feel.

"All our hard work in developing a more flexible environment for designers to work in had an immediate pay-off. People recognized the unique organic quality to our spaces which in turn made the Duality world a rich, original and compelling experience." said David Longo. "As we add more adventure type gameplay, puzzle-solving and strategy this will only raise us further above a crowded genre and create a new standard for the first person game."

Duality is set in a world of ancient ruins of an alien civilization where the player is faced with more than killing various foes. Survival will depend on who you trust, where you explore and how you plan. The player will face indentity crisis and moral ambiguities which will promote more brains than bullets.

Duality will be available on both Mac and PC platforms and will support Open GL and RAVE hardware APIs.

Double Aught, Inc. was founded in 1996 by the core development group of Marathon InfinityTM with the idea that "3D" plus "1st person" doesn't have to equal "shooter". A game development house based in Brooklyn, NY, Double Aught has set out to redefine the 1st person game with its second title Duality. Marathon Infinity, their first title has recieved many awards, Cnet's Gamecenter's award for "Best Mac Game of the Year" among them.
