captured

Size: 957 x 480 pixels
Date: November 1995 (Marathon 2: Durandal)
About: Captured. Chapter VI of Marathon 2: Durandal.
Note this is incorrectly titled Chapter V in the game.
One of ten illustrations Craig did for the game.

In the game this Chapter screen slowly scrolls to the right revealing the full image. It is widely believed that the person who is captured in the image is the player. This also fits with the story at this stage.

Finally! I could never understand what this was in the game. At last, I see the human.

Fantastic! But... oooh, sucks to be THAT Bob...

Lt Devon       [Sep 29, 2004 at 10:01 PM]
It sucks to be a bob all the time. Between the Player and the Pfhor, Bobs have no chance of survival.

I was always under the impression that that was YOU. This would explain why his face is opened up and there is circuitry in his head.

Yes, I believe this is when the player is captured. That's the caption of the title screen as well.

The main player, is it a Spartan I of some kind? I've been thinking...

Palakas       [Oct 26, 2004 at 08:37 PM]
Well the I know that the main player is in mjlonir armor, and is also a cyborg. But I don't think that he's one of the few that underwent the spartan II program

Munch       [Oct 28, 2004 at 10:28 PM]
No, in Marathon you arent a Spartan, of any program. (Keep in mind in Halo, the Spartan I program was using un-modified humans in Mjolnir armor, which killed them) The Marathon and Halo storylines are -totally- seperated, however there are links between the two that Bungie so happily left like a trail of bread crumbs to suggest there are connections, but not so blatant as suggested earlier. In Halo, the Chief is modified, not cybernetic (CYBernetic ORGanism) in Marathon, the Player is a "Battler...

Sphit are truely evil. Actually I think they are worse than phfore. I compare Sphit Drundial to 343 GS

I think its safe to say the person who's the POV in this one is Sphucked...

Reminds me of the pit you start in the second level of Marathon Infinity. Oh, the joy of having hunters at my side, and the enforcers burning under my own forcefully liberated "UNKNOWN WEAPON". Kudos, Craig!

There have been rumors that Halo actually takes place before Marathon. Which would suggest that the character mentioned would not be in the Spartan I program as it would have occured in the past. How far in the past no one is quite sure...
