Vidmaster Tips & Tricks: If I Had a Rocket Launcher, I'd Make Somebody Pay
I want the Rocket Launcher and I want it... NOW!
If I Had a Rocket Launcher, I'd Make Somebody Pay is one of the most fun levels to Vidmaster. Greg Kirkpatrick, the creator of this level, had this to say about it:
This level is the only one i ever thought that I actually had to prove that I could do it on Total Carnage. The rest were cake. I really toned it down for the game, too. I quickly figured out the maximum number of monsters you can have activated at once, and so i removed some of the nasties.
Your initial objective when your arrive (thanks Durandal!) is too survive long enough to get to the Rocket Launcher (point A on the map below). "You can run, but you can't hide" goes the famous phrase. Who needs to run? Take the elevator!
Up... Up... and Away! (.sit or .zip) is a short film demonstrating a trick to get the Rocket Launcher quicker and without too much running around. Getting the Rocket Launcher this way saves all your 2X and 3X shield recharge canisters (Power Cells) for later. Try to avoid picking the one up beside the Rocket Launcher though. Don't forget to go back and clean out the level. ;-)
This involves taking the high passageway (point B) back to the beginning. But don't forget to explore the 2nd high passageway (point C) and the secret underlava stairway at (point D). Clean out all levels, explore all areas, show all secrets. :-)
Note: you can keep an airlock door open longer by standing on it as it's rising. When your head hits the ceiling the door will return to its open position. Can be useful on occasions.
A Fragile Peace... (.sit or .zip) is a set of films by Todd Keating <email@example.com> showing an even quicker way to get to the rocket launcher or indeed finishing the level. Brings a whole new meaning to "air bob". Nice tip - should work on other levels too. There are films for both the Marathon 2 and Infinity versions of this level in Todd's package.
