The Making OfWho made them? One of the greatest pleasures making Tempus Irae was creating the artwork. None more fun than the chapter screens. Most of them were collaborations with James Hastings-Trew, and myself. Each image took about a week to complete, due to the fact we were trading multi-layered Photoshop files back and forth - via 28k modems. Where do you begin? First, a ballpoint pen sketch was created - sometimes drawn on a scrap piece of paper, or the back of an envelope. The sketch was scanned in, and a Photoshop file was created. Being able to work in multiple layers can be tricky enough - sharing the task with someone located in another country would seem to only compound the problem. Not here. James is a Master, and made the seemingly diffcult task a breeze. Layer upon layer was added - making sure to keep all elements separate from each other. Doing so allows for simplistic re-arranging of layers, or treatments (such as filters, or curve adjustments) to be applied - without affecting the other layers. Backgrounds could be switched, or darkened - the "marine" could moved to left, moved to right, etc. How did you know when you were done? As each version was completed, we would upload the file to Nardo's ftp site. The other artist would either approve the revisions, or add some more of their own. This went on until both parties were satisfied. Neither one of us can take credit for doing the images - but together we created some beautiful pieces that we wouldn't have been able to do alone. We hope yopu enjoyed them as much as we enjoyed making them, ....Borzz |
