Three days ago a slave crawled to the threshold of the Oracle and collapsed. According to custom, it was taken inside the sanctuary. The next day the Factors, the Oracle's own priesthood, charge the slave with heresy and order the house guards to deliver the slave. A mob of the faithful quickly seize the Oracle and denounce the Factors. The Factors call on the noble houses to crush the rebellion as panic spreads through the city.
The noble houses choose sides according to ancient rivalries: one group sends troops to the rebels, while another encircles the Oracle and prepares to lay seige. As the first rockets roar overhead, a wounded soldier is dragged to the safety of the Oracle's walls. On the surface, the slaves report a gathering storm. |
