Marathon Midwest

I really didn't ever want to do this, since I like the idea of being invisible on the web. But, after so many folks have asked me who I am and what I do, and if I even have a life, I decided it was time to break down and finally put this page up.

I am a public school teacher for the past 16 years in the Putnam City School District. I write and arrange a lot of music, (there is a music page of my music on this site, but, I have never given out the url). I have taught Instrumental Music during my tenure as a teacher and have been fortunate enough to have some of the best wind bands and orchestras in the state of Oklahoma. It looks like that very soon my job description will change and I will be teaching in other areas as well.

The Putnam City School is the third largest district in Oklahoma located in the northwest quadrant of Oklahoma City. There are 19 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 3 high schools. We are independent of the OKC school district and are very fortunate to be one of the better school districts in the state. We should be coming on line within the next two months.

I used to play Marathon and make maps using Pfhorte. I really enjoyed using Pfhorte and trying to figure out all of the different ways to wrangle tricks with it. But, then Claude and I got to visiting concerning the expected release of the Marathon editors back in October of 96. We visited with each other about how the internet might need another archive, so the idea of MidWest came to life. I petitioned one man and in the same day I had a sponsor. Incredible!! He gave me all the space I needed and as time goes by bigger and better things are planned. Quinn Perkins of Digital Ventures (Pull My Finger Software), is probably one of the best good hearted individuals that I have met on the web. He gave with no former knowledge of me and to this day continues to give.

Yes, MidWest takes up a incredible amount of time. But, I could only imagine how much time it would be if you added up all the hours that were spent making all the files at the archive. This is the reason I maintain this site. All of the authors that spend all their time creating their very best file. The time I spend compared to what they spend making their creations is not even comparable!

Special thanks goes to the great folks that help me with this site, John Coffey, Borzz, Quartz and Dan running the PM Archive. And, brand new, starting very soon the Net crew from MacSource/CyberWorx will really take some load off.

So, we continue to have MidWest for you. Will the Marathon movement ever cease? I don't know. I have been asked that and have been told by some that Quake will eventually win out, or maybe even Myth, when it comes out. If it ever does, this site will be archived and saved for a time that we all remembered that was hopefully a time in our life that was less complicated and full of carnage!!

Thank you for all your comments, and special thanks to Bungie. They're the ones that started this craziness!
