Has Marathon Gamma expired on anyone else's machine? Setting the date
back a few days doesn't fix the problem. Just a big "This copy of
Marathon has expired, please call xxx-xxx-xxxx ext. xx for more
information" (phone number has been removed to protect the Bungie Beta
people from getting tons of calls).

Well, it seems to me that all you would need to do is bring it up
from a clean stuffed version on a "clean computer" with a reset date.
This will give you enough time to find and crack the timer.

Patrick, I bet you can get it to work by deleting the gamma (not your
archive/compressed copy) and then setting your date back to after the
creation date of the gamma, but at least several days ago (try a week, I
would guess?). Then, uncompress your archive. Now, the last modified
date of the gamma will 'match' so to speak, when the gamma checks for the
correct date. The problem is that the game is probably 'modified' at the
first time of opening/running, establishing the modified date. This
modified date is checked with the clock, and if it's after a certain
date, then the game is no go. I betcha that will work.

This is similiar to what sierra did earlier in the 80's and low 90's.
When you first load the game set your date up like fifve months. The
game will record february as the start date and add 30 days to iit or
something and record march as the terminal date. After yuou install the
game set your date back to normal and viola you will have it for many
more months. P.S> this will not work if the games code is predetermined
to die at a specific universal date.
