finally got marathon today! haven't had much of a chance to
play it yet, but did anyone else think the installer was a little
strange? going from disk 1 to disk 4 and back, etc. and then
finally when it was done, all the disk icons were still on my
desktop. i've never had any other program install like this.
doesn't matter much though, the game is still tits.

No kidding... Bungie is a Mac only company, you would think they
would know how to right an installer program that made sence to the
user. Even though I had no trouble eventual installing the program, to
the layman user, the intructions that come with the manuel are USELESS.
Bungie is a bit confused I believe. Perhaps they are simply overwhelmed
with such a big project. Because of which, many small things may slip
through undetected. I would like to congradulate Bungie on the producing
the finest Mac game yet. Unfortunately it's one that contains a
multitude of little anoyances and frustrating bugs. Perhaps next time
will be better :)

Aw come on! It's not really an installer program, it's merely a compact pro
self-extractibng archive! Compact pro, a great shareware compression
software (IMHO better than stuffit ever was/will be) always needs to
work with the last segment first. It's not bungie's fault for using a
widely available shareware compression scheme!
My rant for the day...

The installer is definately weak. Bungie tech support is getting a ton of
calls because a lot of people don't know what the final segment means.
They are going to change the installer, but who knows when.

If I'm not mistaken, Bungie used Aladdin's Installer Maker 1.0 for Pathways.
I'm somewhat surprised that they switched to using Compact Pro for
Marathon. If anything, one would expect it to go the other way around:
using Compact Pro for the first product and "upgrading" to Installer Maker
for subsequent products. However, if using Compact Pro meant that Bungie
was able to ship Marathon faster, then I don't have any problem with it. ;)

I agree, the installer is truely horrible. My guess is that it was a
last minute job. It's just a self-extracting CompactPro Archive. Copy
it all to your hard disk and put it in a folder. Then run it. Should go
much smoother.
