That the hole where the colonist is couldn't possibly exist in real life?
Look how far back it goes on the map, look at the height, and how it would
pass through an existing hallway (The one going to the elevator).. oopsie!

Guys, isn't that the point of being able to have non-orthogonal spaces?
Just a thought. I mean, this is the technology that allows Marathon to
have areas over and under other areas. Maybe their map makers just didn't
see the paradox. The map making program probebly doesn't care at all
though.

Um, are you sure? Stand in the very-slow doorway and look either side to
the left (as you go in)...the tunnel bends immediately before going back
to the central bit with the red switch, and it bends so that its path
takes it through the part of the last bit of....ack...

Yeah, and ditto the corridor leading from the 4-way intersection (same
level as the "top floor" of the elevator) "North" to the small room which
dumps you out in that big room (love these descriptions or what?) at the
bottom of the short stairs leading to the room with the first pattern
buffer and the door into the maze. Oh, well, maybe it's one of those weird
4-D thangs...

I saw someone comment on this in another thread but I couldn't find
it. They mentioned that the secret room on level one, the one with the
Bob in it, was longer than physically possible (in this dimension). I
zipped over to take a look and sure enough, the secret room is occupying
the same space as the corridor behind it. So, the maps in Marathon are
actually four dimensional? Rooms occupying the same space at the same time?
Can anyone find another anomoly like this?

To help illustrate the location of the anomoly mentioned previously,
enclosed is a map of level one with the spot marked. It also has shows
the locations of the secret rooms, etc. Someone wrote me asking for a
map so I took a screen shot and marked it up.

Its a small 17K gif file, encoded in Binhex.

Yeah.. I checked it out too..
but there is no problem.. remember that the 'bob' is 1 floor up from the
corridor... look up you'll see a steel ceiling, then look in the room the
bob is in, it's a steel floor. The bob's room extends above the corridor
to the stairs.

just remember that it's not a 2-d map, it also extends up/downward.

I'm the one who posted that earlier message - check the floor - it's below
where the ceiling of the hallway at the bottom of the stairs is. It must
be a tesseract. =)

Actually, I'm pretty sure that it's a bit of an inconsistency, because the
hall seems too tall for it to fit. But there is an explanation--all
crossovers are inconsistencies; they're actual DIFFERENT sets of 3-d
data being sewed together seamlessly. Or almost seamlessly--in the corridor
with the compiler that you either diagonal-jump or grenade-jump to get to
(first level, lower ducts), you cross over another path, and it's a hole in
the floor. Everyone says to run across, but you can actually stand in that
spot, floating right there three feet above the floor, inbetween the segments
of corridor at your level. Nifty. I don't know why they went and made these
discontinuous segments, but it seems they did. Unless your guy's straddling
the hole.

Nopers!

The Bob is at chest-level to the lower level ... The bobs room extends
INTO the corridor, so you could duck under it (if you could duck), but not
walk through it.
