Ben includes this alien concept from the deceased Ry'ada scenario, along with some insight into its design and history. Could be there's a lesson here, somewhere...

Ben Fisher writes: This is another example of me sketching in 3D. Once again, almost everyone in the Ry'ada crew thought they should be the one who designed the alien. I say designed... I mean everyone told everyone else how THEY should design it :P. Since the design brief, if all opinions were considered, went like this:

"Make it like Aliens. Don't make it like Aliens, make it like a raptor. Don't make it like a raptor, make it totally unknown. Make it a big pile of goo that changes shape to attack. Don't do that, people wont know what to think. Make it like Aliens..."

Anyway, since it went like that, I produced some stills of a model which was LIKE Aliens, but not quite, and LIKE a lizard, but not quite, and devilish (the legs), but not quite.

This is what happens when you compromise designs.

So, everyone went "What are the hands moving like? Are they guns? How do the legs move? That can't work!"

So, I built a moving model using a distinct colour scheme to show the separate parts of the armour. They started to bicker about the colours.

Then Ry'ada died.

Unfortunately, I have binned, burned, and sacrificially purged as many Ry'ada files as possible, including the Strata file of this model. However, if you like it, are inspired by it, or want a Marathon-compliant copy, drop me a line at ben@fisher.enterprise-plc.com
